Goodbye Nito

Goodbye Nito!

Dionisio (Nito) has been a guide in Lapa Rios for 6 years.
Last Wednesday was Nito´s last day as member of our staff.
We will always remember Nito for his passion for ants and birds.
Now he will be dedicating in full time in his family tourism company in his hometown San Vito, southern Costa Rica.
Currently he is in Venezuela studying and learning more about birds.
His company “Surcos” will be offering different kind of tours along National Parks and tropical forests of the Pacific side of Costa Rica.
He also wants to encourage children and young to conserve the environment; to achieve this, he is planning to bring students from his town to Corcovado National Park.
All our staff in Lapa Rios will miss Nito and we hope him good luck and success in his new life!

  • Our warmest wishes to our dear friend, Nito, as he journeys onward to this new adventure. Our very first birding experience was with Nito, 6 years ago (our first time visiting Lapa Rios)...and there's been no turning back. His passion for birds, ants & the natural world is truly infectious! He truly knows how to inspire and teach and welcome! We will always be grateful for all that we have learned from Nito, and for our lifelong friendship. We wish him and his family ALL the best! You will be deeply missed by everyone at LR!!! • Good luck to Nito! We were lucky to have his incredible knowledge and skill as a resource during several visits to Lapa Rios. He could spot things we'd never have seen, and always knew so much about everything! Nito is a world class guide and a wonderful person. I hope we'll be able to see him and use Surcos Tours next time we're in Costa Rica.

  • We have very fond memories of our visit to Lapa Rios in 2008. These were enhanced through our guide Nito, who made the exploration of the surrounding environment come alive, with his enthusiasm and knowledge. We will never forget the night walks, where Nito had an amazing ability to find insects that provided wonderful photographic opportunities.
Nito deserves all success with his new venture, and we send him our best wishes.

  • Best wishes to Nito. I was able to visit with Nito for a few minutes while I was in Costa Rica with Toyota International Teacher Program. I was very impressed with Nito's vast knowledge about birds. I first met Nito at North Cascades National Park on a bird walk. He could identify birds by their calls / songs and he must have eagle eye vision because he could find them before he even set up his scope. With all of his knowledge and his people skills I am sure Lapa Rios will miss him greatly. I am confident he will be a tremendous asset to his families business. Best wishes to Nito, his family in their business adventure at Sucros Tours. I look forwad to seeing Nito in San Vito some day.

Take care and best wishes always..
