Last week an interesting article appeared in our national newspaper "La Nacion". It talked about how the wild pig population is increasing again since there are more park rangers. This endangered specie (Tayassu Pecari) is seen again around Corcovado National Park. Studies have shown that in 2001 every kilometer, only 2 wild pigs were spotted. Recently, in 2007, that number had increased to 15 pigs. Scientists agree that the presence of more rangers since 2004 has been crucial for the increase of this population. Lapa Rios was the first private sector company to pay for an additional ranger every year. Looks like it's working... :)
